My Daily Road Map of Grace Booklet
What is a road map? Well, a map helps us get to a destination. If I want to go from Minneapolis to Chicago, I need to take one of the streets out here to I-94. And after going East on I-94 for about 264 miles, I need to get pickup I-90 and take that South East for another 135 miles. Each leg of this journey has a purpose. And, its important that I take each one correctly or I would wind up in some place that is NOT Chicago!
So, why do I need a road map to God's grace? If I'm a believer, haven't I already entered into God's grace through the gift of salvation?
(A) In Acts 20:32, Paul says: ["And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified."]
So, here we see that not only does God save us by the word of his grace - the gospel of Jesus Christ - but he also builds us up and continues to sanctify us through that same word of grace.
(B) And, in 1 Corinthians 15:1-3, Paul says: ["Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain."]
That would seem to say that if you don't hold fast to this gospel, you will have believed in vain.
(C) In Galatians 5:4, Paul says: ["You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified [declared righteous, and thus acceptable to God] by the law; you have fallen away from grace."]
If we get disconnected from the message of God's grace, and from living in relationship with God through this grace, we will invariably slide into trying to earn God's acceptance by our own efforts and behaviors. We will become legalists.
So, we see that it's important to "hold fast" the word of God's grace - the gospel message. There is an active, ongoing sense in which we are "being saved" [or, are remaining in this salvation] as we hold fast to the message of God's grace.
Let me share with you now what my Daily Road Map of Grace is. Yours may look a bit different than mine. But, let me admonish you to have a Daily Road Map - to have a way of reminding yourself regularly of the gospel of God's grace toward you.
